We’re off to Geocache at Sparks Lake. Sparks Lake sits at the base of a few of the Cascades, like Mt. Bachelor, South Sister and Broken Top. I’m not sure how many of the caches handled the winter with several feet of snow, but, we’re going to check today.
We’re off to Geocache!

Well, we’re back. Sparks Lake sits at 5474′ in Elevation. Unfortunately, the Lake was still snow covered. I was hoping that the weather we have had (70,80,90 degrees) for the last 8 or 10 days would have done away with that. It looks like we still have a couple more weeks before we can geocache there. Fortunately there are 50 lakes within a 10 sq. mi. area. We ended up at Elk Lake (day use area). Elk Lake sits at 4997′. The difference of 500′ really made a big difference. The temperature at Sparks was 63 and at Elk it was 74 degrees. It was beautiful and we had a great time. Unfortunately I didn’t log any coordinates for Elk Lake Geocaches. The Geocaches we were prepared to find were all located at Sparks. So with all that said, we came back empty handed, but, with big smiles on our faces, because it was an incredible way to spend the morining with the family.
Cheers.
We went out to Geocache some today. We had to run to the town we live the closest to, Sisters, OR. We needed to pick some things up for a quick barbecue tonight and thought we would get a geocache in at the same time. We loaded some coordinates and off we went. The closer we got to Sisters, we noticed a few drops of rain. By the time we pulled within .25 miles of the geocache it was coming down so hard the wipers were on overdrive and still couldn’t keep up. Our littlest one, Tate fell asleep and so we decided it best to give this one a shot tomorrow.

We ran into Bend, Oregon today to do some errands and grab some ice cream at Goody’s and thought we’d also do a quick geocache between Thunderstorms. We have had a few days of warm, but wet weather. We go from Blue Sky to Black Skies and pouring down rain in the same hour. So picking a good time to run around outside looking for geocaches has been challenging. We did manage to find some dry skies. We found an easy 1.5 geocache today. It was full of small creature toys. We also left a little porcupine lookin’ creature dude. Our youngest who was with us, found a great little Dalmation dog.
We made it safe to Eugene. A lot of Gray sky here, but, it’s nice to be with family. We are staying with our Sisters, Brother-in-Law and kids. We did go out tonight around 8PM and find our first of several geocaches here in Eugene. The first one was only a short walk and our oldest son grabbed some earings out of the cache to give to a friend that lives here in Eugene, Bella. Here are some pics:
It’s been a great few days of Geocaching and spending time with our family here in Eugene. We spent Sunday doing 6 geocaches. It took us a few hours to do. One of the reasons was that we saved the hardest for last. It was a long walk straight up a butte at Hendricks Park. The cache was a micro and camo’ed, so it took just a bit. It was a lot of fun though. The kids found all of them yesterday and some they looked pretty hard for. We’ll be posting soon. Cache On!

We are now down on the Central Oregon Coast, around Newport (Newport used to be home to Keiko, the Whale). We had a great time today geocaching some. We geocached 2. The first one was a cache and dash. There were so many goodies in there for our little one. The 2nd was also fun, but took a lot more work. This is one that we searched for, for quite some time. It was an ammo box and was stashed inside a huge tree base. The problem with the geocache was that it was so green there. Of course, when I say problem, I mean it was a great geocache. It was overgrown with every variety of plant you could think of that grows in the State of Oregon. It was near a creek and very swampy with swamp type plants as well. I have to say it was like a lot of geocaches, once we found it, we said, of course…of course that’s where it would be. It was one of my favorite places we have found geocaches.
It’s a beautiful, sunny morning here in Central Oregon. We will probably hide a micro cache today that Tan wants to. We cached two yesterday and one of them had a magnetic hide-a-key, so he traded what he had for that. He wants to hide it today. Wow…the two we cached yesterday were tough. They were both really hard to find and the first one was rated a 4 for Terrain and when we started down, we knew why. It was located on a 60 or 70 degree slope and you had to traverse rocks, loose gravel and we did it all with Tatey our 4 year old. It was a great cache though and the boys toughed it out. We will post more today after we hide it.
Cheers.
